Mystery: Police believe attack may have taken place in another part of the city
A murder probe was launched yesterday after a 13-year-old girl died following a desperate 999 plea for help.
The teenager was found clinging to life near a play area in a city centre park at lunchtime after making the emergency call.
Police arrived to find she had suffered a “serious assault”. She was treated at the scene then rushed to hospital but last night police confirmed she had died.
Detectives in Doncaster, South Yorks, believe the attack may have taken place in another part of the city and a 26-year-old woman, initially arrested on suspicion of serious assault, was being held last night.
A police spokesman confirmed: “We are treating this as a murder investigation and a 26-year-old woman remains in custody.
“A postmortem will be held in due course and we arenot yet in a position to name the victim.”
